Choosing a Retail Electric Provider (REP)

Deregulation of the electric market has opened up consumer choice when it comes to choosing your retail electric provider (REP). I highly encourage all consumers to shop the market, be a knowledgeable consumer, and understand your choices. To see all available offerings in your zip code go to:
http://www.powertochoose.org/ or call Toll-free 1-866-PWR-4-TEX (1-866-797-4839).

Remember the per kilowatt hour price should not be the sole factor in choosing your provider; while cheaper rates are a benefit, there are many other important factors to consider when shopping for products and electric providers. Such factors include but are not limited to:

• Is the product a fixed price term or available price contract?
• How does the REP fare in complaint statistics?
• Does the company voluntarily offer moratoriums on disconnections in the summer months?

For answer to the following questions see the products Facts Label (EFL) & Terms of Service (TOS) for each product on http://www.powertochoose.org/ :

• What are the contract termination fees if any?
• Will I be charged for contacting customer service?
• Are there monthly base charges?

It can sometimes be a confusing endeavor to choose the correct product for you. Do the research, ask the questions and feel free to contact Representative Turner’s office at anytime if you are having any difficulties with the process.
