Children’s Medicaid

Representative Turner has a long-standing commitment to ensuring all children have access to affordable health care in his 20 years in the legislature. This past session, Rep. Turner filed HB 1541 to add 258,000 eligible but uninsured children in our state to Children’s Medicaid. Though it did not get passed through the House, the bill would have implemented 12 months continuous coverage, preventing children from getting knocked off every 6 months due to administrative errors and delays. Uninsured children often turn to high-cost emergency rooms for treatment, or delay care until medical conditions are more serious- and expensive. These charges are passed on to the community, affecting everyone through higher hospital charges, higher private health insurance premiums, and higher local taxes. Rep. Turner supports Congress’ Health Reform efforts and will continue to work to ensure our state receives its fair share of new benefits and rules to protect citizens and provide access to health insurance for the Texans who need it most.
